Nokia E51 - Redesigned Keys & Functionality

Those of you tracking the availability of Nokia E51 have probably already seen the reports that the device now is available on eBay. Buy.com and other various outlets.

I received my own device, imported from Europe, yesterday. Rather to post one full review I will post about the device as I use it and discover what I like/dislike.

First up, the main keys.

It might seem trivial but I think the the redesign icons for the main one touch keys is huge! Replacing the application key with a "home" key makes the end user experience much better. Especially for new users. The new icons are also much cleaner and crisper than the previous icons but there is more to the new icons than meets the eye.

Stacks and Rows

"More of something good is always better" That seems to logic behind a number of photos I have received of stacks and rows of Eseries goodies.

Rows of Nokia E61i, Chargers, Batteries and Nokia N95.

Problems With Themes: Certificate Error, Certificate Expired

As much as I like themes to personalize my Nokia Eseries devices they are also a cause for the vast majority of all questions I receive to this blog. On a good day I get no questions about themes but on an average I get five questions a day. Yes, five questions per day! The questions I receive are:

"I have problems installing themes please help me" or "I get a "certificate error" message when trying to install a theme what do I do" or "I get an "certificate expired" error message when installing a theme please help"

Although this have been covered extensively in the past I guess it is still an issue.

If you try to install a theme and see the above error message "Certificate Error. Contact the application supplier" You are trying to installed an application that is not Symbian signed.

The solution is easy. Simply switch the setting in the Application Manager from "Signed only" to accept all - "Software Installation: All". You can find the application manager in the tools folder, then click on "Option" to bring up "Settings"

Another common issue is the "Expired Certificate" error. The certificate that the theme developer used may have expired. However, there is an even easier fix for this issue.

Simply set the date on your device back one year and then install the theme. After you successfully installed the theme don't forget to set the time correctly on your device.

With that being said I am now off to trawl the internet for some new great themes. If you have any themes to share with us please send them my way: Ed at "the domain of this blog".

Nokia E61i - Wired Editor’s Pick

Nokia E61i won the Wired's Editor's Pick award in their smartphones category of their Wired Test Winter 2008 issue.

The Nokia E61i beat out a number of formidable competitors including Palm Treo 755P, BlackBerry 8830, Motorola Q9 etc.

Wired liked the amazing web browser, the great collection of business and media applications, and the long talk time.

Listed as what they did not like was the width of the device, the placement of the microSD slot and the lack of stereo Bluetooth.

Nokia E90 Communicator hitting the market with extremely stylish-sliding devices

Nokia, one of the most trusted brands across the world has come up with another wave of astonishing devices. It is known for coming up with the most advanced models almost every week. Some of the key issues with Nokia are its user-friendliness, nice designs, and the well-equipped features. The second wave of Nokia E series has shook the world with complete surprise. Nokia E90 Communicator is a designer mobile phone from the Nokia kitty, albeit with a difference. Nokia E90 Communicator comes in a compact design. However, the profile of this clamshell handset is not that slim. As a matter of fact, first time users would find the Nokia E90 Communicator quite bulky.

The all new E90 Communicator has hit the market with extremely stylish-sliding devices, catering the customers with the most revolutionised features. It is designed with a close consideration to the dynamic needs of the professionals. In addition to this, the manufacturer has taken care of the budget of the customers. The Nokia E90 Communicator is available along with pay as you go deals, in order to make it a cost-effective deal for the customers. However, an easy navigation, a 2 inches external display and a QWERTY keyboard would divert the attention of curious onlookers rather quickly from the handset's profile. And once users are made aware of the different features of this mobile phone model, their opinion is bound to change from “bulky and heavy” to the “best among the existing mobile gadgets.”

The Nokia E90 Communicator is a quad-band mobile phone with 3G (third generation mobile technology) and HSDPA support. The speed of data transfer is quite high – which make the Nokia E90 Communicator quite invaluable to users. The data transfer speeds could go upto 3.6Mbps.

Another merit of the Nokia E90 Communicator is that it could be used for making video calls. A VGA resolution camera is integrated within the design of the Nokia E90 that could be used for this specific purpose. There is also a second camera, located at the back of the Nokia E90 mobile phone. This 3.2 mega-pixel digital camera can be used to capture impressive shots of memorable moments from the kaleidoscope of one's life.

Third generation power means that the Nokia E90 Communicator could be used for fast web browsing, email access as well as exchange of files and documents. With 128MB of free memory expandable through 512MB microSD card support, there is ample room to store all the images, files and other type of mobile content.

Nokia E90 Communicator could also double up as a powerful business tool. The handset could be used to view PDF as well as Microsoft Office documents. Owners of the handset could also create Excel spreadsheets and Word documents – thanks to the QuickOffice suite. Based on the above discussion, it can be stated that the Nokia E90 Communicator is a powerful gadget to acquire and use.

Although the Nokia E90 Communicator is bulky and heavy, it's definitely among the best of the current crop of mobile devices if you need a keyboard. Nokia has certainly made good use of the space available to it. To assess battery life, we asked the Nokia E90 Communicator to play music continuously from a full battery, which it did for 9 hours and 40 minutes. The screens turn off rather quickly to help conserve battery power, and if you're a heavy user of the internal screen, 3G and/or Wi-Fi, then you'll get less battery life than this. Nonetheless, most users can realistically expect to get through a day away from the office without requiring a recharge. Please purchase on online

The question of an upgrade for existing E61 users is a little bit more difficult. Beyond the camera there’s little difference in the physicality of the E61 to the E61i. The built in software changes are, for the most part, included in the firmware updates available to end-users of the E61 using Nokia Software Update. As a replacement unit for a damaged Nokia E61, by all means take the later model, but there’s no real need to lust after that extra ‘i’ just yet.

Nokia E90 Communicator: the mighty beast.

Nokia's romance with 'Communicator' began more than a decade back with the 9000, where the company fiddled with Intel chip and GEOS operating system. Nokia E60: Lets talk business

Like multimedia and music phones, the hugely useful business phones are rarely adorned by flashy or so called favourable reviews. Usually, business phones or smartphones are considered bulky devices and that's really act against such highly capable gadgets as most of the mobile phone users like to have easy to carry phones. This is absolutely right because the prime function of a mobile phone is to let you communicate with others in the easiest way possible, but if they are bulky then you would think twice before carrying them with yourselves. Like other concerns, this issue has been taken very seriously by the mobile handsets manufacturers and this is the result why the present business phones are more compact and lighter than the earlier ones.

Carrying the burden of innumerable expectations, Nokia released its curiously anticipated smartphone, the Nokia E60, which is more like a pocket calculator to bring easiness in your lives. Mobile phone users would not mind to carry a pocket calculator sized smartphone and the Nokia E60 easily serves this purpose. It comes with a candybar design and it weighs 117 grams, which is not that much bulky. To provide full back up the Nokia E60 comes with a fully charged battery, which can let you talk for a week without any need of recharging. Its functionalities are empowered by its Symbian operating system, which supports various features such as email client, PIM tools, web browser and PC sync. feature.

The Nokia E60 scores really well, when it comes to connectivity. It boasts WLAN support and WiFi. If sometimes, the WLAN turns off, then you can take good care of your business with 3G and GPRS data services – keeping you always on the right track. Moreover, you also get USB and Infrared features, which allow you to get all the desired data as easily as possible. It is not possible to get a perfect business phone with all the desired features, as our expectations do increase with a consistent pace, but the Nokia E60 can be taken as a compatible business phone with loads to offer.
